Hi everyone! My name is Syed and I’m a third year law student. Thank you for taking out time to read my manifesto. Whilst in UEL I have been involved in many clubs and societies. Being an international student I have noticed and experienced that settling in as an international student is not always easy. I believe that a lot more can be done to improve support part available for the students who live thousands of miles away from home.
In the past few years I have been continuously involved in representing my peers. Being an ex-military officer and my involvement in extra-curricular activities have given me an insight into beneficial and realistic changes I know I could bring to the university as president.
I want to channel my passion for fair representation into working as a president for the university leading a team of passionate and energetic individuals to make university the best it can be and to see real change for students.
I am a firm believer that while we are here to get an education, “the university experience is much more than a degree”. Through representation, societies, campus sport and much more I have realized my full potential and it is only fair that it should be ACCESSIBLE to every student. Working with the other students I have realized the importance of student feedback and making university the best fit for each individual.
As activities officer I will be able to bring your opinion to the table, make students as inclusive as possible and work towards everyone feeling as comfortable as I do to go outside their comfort zone and Give it a Go!
Why vote for me?
The university should be a safe and engaging environment with lots of positivity, fun, amazing clubs, societies and activities and most importantly great students who want to get the most out of university life.
To make this happen ill need your vote.
My Aims:
- Encourage students to fulfil their full potential focusing on more than a degree and pushing extra-curricular activities
- Increase engagement with new student specially during the critical first few months of their university experience so they are well aware of all the services that are available and the opportunities for them and the other students to learn new skills and to practice sharpen and polish their skills in a student and learner friendly environment.
- Support inclusivity of minority groups within an activities role.
- Work with volunteering services to ensure relevant work is being offered in which students can gain not only life experience and better employability achievements but also practical skills
- Emphasize volunteering within societies to gain viable practical skills for employability.
- Continue to work on improving and investing in green spaces throughout the campus to ensure student WELL BEING.
- More support and continued training and refresher sessions throughout the year for students.
- Work with elected representatives to act for ALL STUDENT GROUPS.
In order to achieve this, I intend to build on the fantastic job by my fellow members and to further improve the experience we all enjoy. I hope that UEL continues to grow both in numbers and the opportunities it generates. I do want to contribute to that my time, experience, commitment as well as the above ideas and I ask for your support in the elections.
