If you're a student at the University of East London, then you can get involved in our elections. Even if you haven't been involved with our activities in the past, everyone is welcome to get involved.

Elections month can be confusing if you haven't been involved with the Students' Union before as there are lots of different roles available, so we have answered some of your most common questions below. You can find out more about elections month by reading our elections month blog.

What positions are available?

Student officers, who represent the views of the student body on issues including education, activities, and wellbeing. This is a full-time and paid opportunity.

School reps, who work in this part-time paid role where you will work to improve the student experience for students who are in your school. You can only become a School rep if you have been a course rep.

Course reps, who represent your classes’ academic views at committee meetings and work to improve your academic experience.

I’m not sure if I can run?

If you’re interested in becoming a student officer, or course rep, then we encourage you to nominate yourself.

Whether you’re a first-year student or in your final year, an international or part-time student, a postgraduate student or a mature student, a student who is a parent or has caring responsibilities, you are all invited to nominate yourself for one of our roles. It's important that our diverse student body is well represented!

If you’re interested in becoming a school rep, please note that we only accept nominations from students who have already been a course rep.

What is a course rep?

If you become a course rep, you will represent your classes’ academic views at committee meetings and work to improve the academic experience for your classmates.

If you become a student officer, you will represent the views of the student body on issues including education, activities, and wellbeing. This is a full-time and paid opportunity where you’ll work closely with the Students’ Union team.

What is a school rep?

As a school rep, you will work to improve the student experience for students who are in your school in this part-time paid role. You can only become a School rep if you have been a course rep
