Through creating events and activities, our Students’ Union societies provide students with opportunities to meet new people, learn new skills that could make a difference to your CV, and best of all, have fun. Our societies build communities and friendships that can last a lifetime.
The society awards are about recognising the contributions, successes and impact delivered by our Students' Union societies. The awards and the criteria can be found below. Nominations closed on 13 March 2020.
Society of the year
This award goes to the society who has made the biggest contribution to creating a positive student experience. These are societies that have built a strong and connected community amongst their members and provided a regular programme of engaging and diverse activities and events.
Best new society
Creating a new society from scratch is challenging but rewarding. This award is for a new society created since September 2019 who have exceeded expectations of a new group. They have built a strong and connected community amongst their members and created a regular programme of engaging and diverse activities and events.
Best society event
Remember a great society event? This award is for the society who has delivered an innovative or memorable event since September 2019. The winner will have engaged most of their members and contributed to building a sense of community within their group and the University. The event will have been well-planned and executed and delivered within budget. And, it should have been accessible and inclusive, making the event welcoming to the diverse student body in the University.
Best committee member
Society committee members play a central role in creating a sense of community through their society’s events and activities. This award is for a committee member who has excelled in their role and gone above and beyond the expectations of their duties. They have followed the correct procedures for running their group, regularly listened to and valued members’ feedback and displayed excellent teamwork.
