World Mental Health Day 2023: a message from your Wellbeing and Community Officer

Today is World Mental Health Day, and to mark it I wanted to talk about the work I’ll be doing this year to support students’ mental health and wellbeing.

Hi, I’m Bibin Bobachan, the Wellbeing and Community Officer. Today is World Mental Health Day, and to mark it I wanted to talk about the work I’ll be doing this year to support students’ mental health and wellbeing.

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social wellbeing, affecting how we think, feel and act. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through to adulthood.

Mental health has no boundaries or borders. It is a universal concern that demands global attention and compassion.

That’s why one of my priorities this year is to put on a series of wellbeing events for students to help reduce their stress and improve their sense of belonging.

We are still finalising the plans, but they are set to include meet and greet events, wellbeing walks, dancing and movie nights.

We are kicking off the activity this Thursday with an adopt a plant session, where students can decorate a pot and take it home along with a free cactus or succulent. Being creative is a great way to reduce stress, and being around nature is important for your wellbeing. The event is taking place from 15:00-17:00 in the Pump House, Docklands campus.

On behalf of East London Students’ Union, I would like to welcome all students to - or back to - campus, and hope to see you all at a wellbeing event soon. Visit our what's on page for all the latest events.
