Jesmine Choudhury

Hi, I’m Jesmine, I grew up in a small seaside town and moved to London to study Fashion Design and currently studying International Fashion Business at postgraduate level. I am very sociable, friendly and extremely approachable. I have had experience working as a project administrator for a youth-based awards ceremony and event planning for numerous university fashion shows and exhibitions and feel that the skills I have learnt can be transferrable into this role.

Now four years since I first moved to London, I am dedicated on making a change and helping students unlock their full potential, have fun and make amazing memories. They say university is where you create the best memories and some of the best years of your life, so let’s make this statement true together!

What I Will do?

As the activities and opportunities officer, I want to focus on three key things; more recognition, more opportunities and more support throughout our amazing societies and events exploring beyond, what we already know and what can be really amazing.

As student of UEL I want to represent the strength we have as students and make sure we can create something special and meaningful, there are so many of us which makes up a bank of great talent so why not use this? I also want to create industry experience for students through the use of new volunteering jobs - for students with the help of what students want.

MORE RECOGNITION:

Putting on a Societies’ Showcase festival - we have so many brilliant societies so why not unite them all together, so we learn from each other and show the university what us students have to offer. With my experience on running and putting on events, I feel like I could really make this happen. Our university is in such a unique space, therefore, why not utilise this and create a platform in which we could communicate and collaborate. This will allow us all to learn from each other but not only that by unifying this makes each society stronger and gives each one the support they need.

MORE OPPORTUNITIES:

We could unlock our full potential and create events that we want to go to, I want to make it easier for students to run their own activities and events on and off campus. I feel like there are not enough events through the university to help us socialise with other students that we wouldn’t normally cross paths with. I would love to create activities and events that UEL students want and for students that don’t want to be part of a society but still get that student experience through socialising at events. As well as, allow students to be a part of the event planning. You want to do something specific; Let’s try achieving it together.

MORE SUPPORT:

Putting the student union on the UEL map, as a student I was never really drawn to the student union and didn’t really know what they have to offer, therefore, I would love to make this accessible to all students so that they know we are there and what we do collectively and how we can make your student experience better.

Other Priorities:

  • Help create networking events - our university is made up of over 13,000 students all who have different talents. So why not create a space which allows us to network and build our skills and experience.
  • You need a photographer? That’s great, because we have loads of photography students that are amazing and need experience and that applies to all of our courses.
  • Provide local volunteer opportunities - London is literally our oyster and I want to crack into and create opportunities for students to gain industry experience. This also allows the university to build relationships outside of our campuses.
  • Ensure all societies receive the support they need and help them strive towards their short- and long-term society goals by listening and holding sessions where their opinions are heard.
  • Be a friend to all students to help them with their student experience.
