Disabled students community group: Walk and Talk

Tuesday 09 April 2024 - noon - 1pm
Pump House, Docklands Campus

Did you know that the NHS recommend connecting with other people and physical activity as two of the top five things you can do to improve your mental wellbeing?

Join us as we bring together disabled students at the University of East London for a casual chat and walk along the Docklands active trail. Warm up afterwards with a tea or coffee at the Pump House, where we will continue our conversations.

As well as socialising, this will be an opportunity to discuss matters relevant to the group and how we can improve things at university, helping to inform our future campaign work.

All levels of fitness are welcome - we will be taking it slow and steady. The walk will be roughly 30 minutes long from start to finish but this can be amended based on the group's collective needs. Remember to go at your own pace, bring bottled water and wear comfortable clothes suitable for walking in.

If you are not able to join us for the walk please do head straight to the Pump House to meet one of our staff members. The walking group will meet you there once finished.

This is a casual event and everyone's welcome - we'd love to see you there.

  • Please bring your student ID card to all events. This event is for UEL students only.
  • If you have any accessibility requirements that you need to make us aware of prior to the event, please contact our reception on students.union@uel.ac.uk.

Community Groups

We’re restarting our eight community groups for students who identify as - or ally with - people with particular backgrounds.

They are a place for students to create a community of likeminded people, while providing an opportunity to run campaigns and hold events.

The community groups will also help us to communicate students’ experiences and opinions to the University.

A big part of our work is boosting the student voice and campaigning on issues that matter to you. To do that effectively, we need to understand students' viewpoints and experiences. That's where community groups come in!

We are helping to set up the groups in the first instance, with students later leading the groups’ activity.
